You know what pisses me off beyond belief?
When people accuse someone of faking a disorder; more specifically, when people accuse someone of faking dissociative identity disorder.
Yes, it’s rare. Yes, it’s complicated.
No, normally hosts are not aware of alters nor do they communicate.
The thing is, every one is different.
Everyone experiences this differently and for fucks sake who has the right to dictate if your experiences are valid?
I got lucky.
I was properly diagnosed. I had an amazing doctor and psychiatrist who took me step by step through this.
I didn’t always have contact with my alters. I dissociated, I blacked, out my world was a complete nightmare.
She helped them introduce themselves.
I decided against integration and it is without a doubt one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Our system is open.
We communicate well and share this life as equally as we can.
We compromise and try to understand one another.
They are my family.
They are my best friends.
And when someone tries to tell me they aren’t real, it honestly takes all my strength not to rip their fucking tongue out.
Come live in my head and then you can tell me just how fake they are.
Step in and let them talk to you.
Let them show you.
I have never been open about this, and I have never been one to rant about it; but all this negative bullshit going around about fake systems and how certain alters aren’t possible is just fucking maddening.
Every mind is different.
Just move on with your life, and leave others to their own.
Fuck.
